GREEN BELT - Learning Resources

---|| Six Sigma Project Roles ||---

Green Belt (GBs)
Six Sigma Green Belts are project leaders who take up the Six Sigma role for specific projects only. This is not a permanent role (like Black Belt or Master Black Belts are). Six Sigma Green Belts (or GBs) continue to work in their regular role and lead the Six Sigma project teams through DMAIC projects.
All GBs are supposed to be Six Sigma trained and understand all the basic tools and their applications. They are supported by Six Sigma Black Belts (BBs) and Six Sigma Master Black Belts (MBBs)

Black Belts (BBs)
Six Sigma Black Belts are full time dedicated Six Sigma professionals whose main responsibilities are to lead large scale Six Sigma Projects and to mentor and guide Six Sigma Green Belts to enable them to do their projects. Black Belts are experts in Six Sigma methodology and the tools, understand lean thinking and possess necessary skills like project management, time management, leadership, conducting meetings etc. to efficiently run projects. Black Belts generally report to Master Black Belts

Master Black Belts (MBBs)

Master Black Belts are Six Sigma leadership roles. The core responsibilities of Six Sigma MBBs are:

  • To lead teams of Black Belts and ensure they are aligned to major improvement areas within the organization.
  • To ensure Six Sigma methodology and tools are understood within their scope

In terms of Six Sigma skills, MBBs possess same level of conceptual understanding but generally have more experience than Black Belts in doing and leading projects.
